A set of drones I made for myself - John Brock Specs

This is the first set of GHB drones I have ever made. I got the plans from John Brock's site:

http://www.bagpipeproject.com/

I make Irish Uilleann pipes as a hobby. But as I have been keen on the Highland pipes for a long time, have been getting my fingers around the practice chanter for many years, I decided to have a crack at making a set of these.

As this was a first attempt, I tooled up with D bit drills and purchased some East Indian Rosewood - Dalbergia latifolia - cheaper than Ebony or ABW, but sufficiently dense (denser than Indian Sheesham - Dalbergia sissoo) to produce a decent result.

Materials - Pipes in East Indian Rosewood; mounts in Turkish Boxwood. Stocks are actually Australian gidgee but you can hardly notice the difference in color.

Bag is a Begg standard cowhide.

Blowpipe is a complete mismatch altogether.

John's plans are slightly modified based on early Hendersons. Tonally these produce a very similar tone and harmonic to my 'Conundrum' set on a previous post.

You can see from the last few photos looking down on the drone tops that the two tenor bells turned out with noticeably different dimensions. I could claim it was because I wanted to do the whole 'different tenors adds to the tonal colour' bit. But actually it is a result of a wandering mind, not paying attention, and breaking the age old craftsman's rule of 'measuring twice; cut once'!!

Drone cords are tied with electric ties until I get around to sewing them with a more pleasing colour of cotton.
